Disable view interaction and add zoom-in/out

Could we completely disable view interaction (and remove the space-key shortcut), then add a pair of zoom-in/zoom-out buttons? On my laptop, a little two-finger movement on the trackpad tends to trigger a big response, making the image sizes difficult to control. When processing larger data files, the delayed responses also add confusion.

I would appreciate having a pair of zoom-in/zoom-out buttons either in the toolbar or in each view. No preference yet.

When you zoom, you never need to pan to adjust the position that you want center to the screen?

Centering to the screen would be sufficient. If I wanted to zoom in to a region, say, in the top-left part of the global map, I could use our lat/lon cropping sliders, right?

I gave Kai a demo of QuickView2 yesterday, and he suggested the same. He often uses larger data; there, the delayed response from Perlmutter caused quite a bit of confusion.
